Cadbury Community Center Project Breaks Ground at Kendal at Hanover
Hanover, New Hampshire: Residents and staff of Kendal at Hanover partcipated in a ground-breaking ceremony on January 28th for the renovation of the Cadbury Community Center Project. The 32,000 square foot renovation and addition includes a new kitchen facility as well as upgrades and improvements to the existing dining and community areas.
Seeking to modernize this busy 17-year old Community Center on campus, and to improve the services provided to its residents, Kendal at Hanover's new facility will reflect the organization's commitment to excellence and leadership as a continuing care retirement provider. This renovation project is the first of several planned initiatives, following the completion of a Campus Master Plan by Lavallee Brensinger Architects.
"Kendal at Hanover is thrilled to be embarking on the renovation of our Cadbury Community Center," said Rebecca A. Smith, Executive Director of Kendal at Hanover. "This project, when complete, will enhance the lives of all of our residents and staff as we continue to build our future together. The improvements to our community center will make it an even more dynamic hub of activity that will enhance the sense of community, togetherness, and inclusion, for all current and future residents. We are pleased to be working with Lavallee Brensinger Architects and Engelberth Construction and look forward to bringing our long awaited project to reality with this great team of professionals."
The updated and expanded Dining Services and Cadbury Community Center, designed by Lavallee Brensinger Architects and built by Engelberth Construction, will feature several new amenities for residents, including a casual dining setting, a coffee bar for late night desserts and gatherings, as well as sitting areas to meet neighbors prior to dinner. New seating arrangements and dining options offer a choice of waited service, café, or interactive dining with an exhibition finishing kitchen where food preparation is more integrated with the dining room.
Furniture and finishes will be upgraded for increased comfort and ease of maintenance, while also incorporating "green" materials. Folding doors to the café can open to provide added flexibility for the Community Center space, able to accommodate special events such as concerts and celebrations.
"It is a great honor to be a part of this wonderful ceremony," said Joan Eagleson, Project Manager for Lavallee Brensinger Architects. "We have been working closely with the Kendal Community to develop a design that hopefully exceeds their expectations. It is very exciting to see the construction phase begin."
Representatives from the Kendal Community actively participated in the project's design process, developing the right solution for their Community Center, which reflects the organization's tradition of Quaker values and sensitivity to individual values.
