Project Overview
Amid a housing crunch, Engelberth was hired to renovate three historic buildings, formerly dormitories, into 65 units of multi-family housing with a mix of (8) studios, and (57) one-bedroom units. Work in the buildings; Dupont, Hamel, and Purtill Halls at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester, included interior demolition, hazardous material abatement, structural improvements, addition of egress stairs, framing for new floor layouts, drywall, paint and finishes, masonry repair and repointing, window restoration and replacement, roof repair, porch and balcony repair, appliances, and new electrical, mechanical, ventilation and fire suppression systems.
Dupont Hall hosts a community room and staff offices while all three buildings have resident laundry rooms.
Site improvements included connection to water, sewer and stormwater utilities at the curb, new walkways, ramps and access along with landscaping and amenities improvements.
This project was funded by several housing and community development financial assistance programs.
