Project Overview

A major milestone a decade in the making, Project NexT, the newly expanded 60,000 sf North terminal, is a modern, inviting space for travelers, delivering a streamlined, interconnected facility improving circulation and operational flow.

The second floor concourse features mass timber Douglas Fir Glulam beams, Spruce Pine Fir CLT panels, and exposed steel structural cross bracing for a hi-end aesthetic. This level showcases four new passenger gates with jet bridges and seating areas, a fireplace lounge, children’s room, business center area, as well as a pet relief area and family and public bathrooms. Floor to ceiling windows provide an abundance of natural lighting throughout.

Continuing the warm wood design, the third floor provides new administrative offices and conference space, along with a flexible event area that opens to a rooftop patio with sweeping views of the airfield and Green Mountains.

The apron level ground floor, services the operational demands for baggage claim vehicles and back of the house shipping, receiving, storage, elevator, mechanical, and electrical rooms.

Designed with long-term performance in mind, Project NexT incorporates net-zero energy strategies, including solar and geothermal heating and cooling systems, along with smart building technologies, and recycled building materials to optimize energy use and reduce overall waste.

The lighting units, referred to as the “utility element”, are custom-fabricated metal assemblies designed to integrate multiple systems into a single, streamlined housing. Each unit accommodates up and down lighting fixtures, lighting controls, fire alarm components, security cameras, speakers, and Wi-Fi access points. All low and line-voltage wiring is routed internally through the utility element, continuing up through the support posts and concealed into the faux wood beam system.
