Engelberth Construction is proud to be leading the construction of a new Adolescent Inpatient Behavioral Health (AIM) Unit at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) in Bennington, Vermont. This vital project will expand access to specialized inpatient behavioral health services for adolescents throughout southwestern Vermont and the surrounding region.
Supported through state funding and developed in collaboration with Dartmouth Health, the new 7,800-square-foot unit has been thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for young patients requiring inpatient mental health care. Upon completion, the AIM Unit will include 10 private inpatient rooms and one specialized patient room for adolescents with more complex medical needs.
Construction began with the demolition of an existing 6,600-square-foot hospital space on the lower level and includes a comprehensive renovation and expansion. The project scope features structural modifications, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, masonry, interior framing, medical equipment installation, and exterior site improvements. The new behavioral health unit will incorporate specialized building components and finishes designed specifically for inpatient psychiatric care.
Engelberth is coordinating every phase of work to support uninterrupted hospital operations. Adjacent patient care areas remain fully occupied throughout construction, requiring detailed phasing, infection prevention measures, noise and vibration control, and close collaboration with hospital leadership and clinical staff to ensure patient safety and minimize disruptions.
